Since sometimes I get this question I decided to make a journal about it -w-

How can you get more exposure on DeviantArt? I know that having many watchers/favs means nothing. But, while I know that numbers aren't important, being appreciated by a lot of people of course is awesome

*Note: Since english is not my mother language, this post will be full of errors...sorry

1) GetWatchers

This is exactly how it works: the more you see, the more you'll be seen. I'll point out just one thing: don't watch/fave just to raise your views, that's pretty sad

You should say that you love only what your really like, alright?

2) Social network

Social Networks are awesome when you want to spread your art all over the web! All you have to do is sharing your work with a watermark, aaaaaand...is done. Really, it's super simple!

If you post your art on Tumblr make sure to put the permalink in your work's description, so people will reblog your own post!

3) Collaborations

I've never used this method, but I saw that it worked for some friends of mine: if you work with someone else, this will help you both. Double advertising mwahahah

4) Contests

Contests are a great way to advertise yourself and your art. Join as many as you can!

(notice that I've wrote "can": don't exaggerate!)

Of course you can even hold a contest to get the same result

5) Features

This is usually a prize for winning a contest or a giveaway: if you're being featured, someone will post a link to your page on his profile- and this helps a lot!

6) Groups

Group are the perfect way of sharing your art with people that will probably like it. I know that you may be tempted to send a work to every group that can fit it, but don't exaggerate- I personally find ridiculous a deviation with 100+ groups

(of course this doesn't apply if you get requests from groups ahahah)

7) Be active

Upload a lot of deviations, journals, comments, forum posts, etc.! More attention you give, the more you will receive! You love a user's gallery? Watch him, write him what you like and fave everything!

As I said in the first point, you have to be fair: don't watch other people's page only to get them to watch you

8) Try to be polite and friendly

Nobody will like a grumpy person that insults everyone

9) Use the right tags

You should use more than 1-2 tags to describe your art!
Example: this are the tags that I've used for my latest picture (I've erased one because it was a spoiler ahahah XD)

"elizabeth comstock booker dewitt bioshock infinite cosplay columbia zachary paris lamb cloud utopia city sky 1912"

They're a lot, but they're all related to the picture. I'm not saying that you have to use A LOT of tags, but they can help

10) Be patient

General tips:

I've heard that an animated icon may help you to get noticed, and that you should upload your art between 3 p.m.-12 a.m. ...but I don't really get how this can help you ahahah XD

Your should always write nice titles for your art, but sometimes (especially when you're uploading a fan art) simply using the character's name can be better (don't know why D: ).
